Valle de los Cirios Coastal Reserve, Mexico
Project Summary
In June 2025, Mantra selected WILDCOAST as a grant recipient to support critical conservation work in the Valle de los Cirios Coastal Reserve - one of Baja California’s most ecologically significant landscapes. Since receiving the grant, WILDCOAST has made meaningful progress across land protection, wildlife monitoring, and community education.
Land Protection: WILDCOAST has advanced the due-process steps required to secure the acquisition of Parcel 37; 340 acres and over half a mile of pristine coastline. This acquisition is on track to be finalized by the end of 2025, permanently protecting this threatened coastal habitat.
Wildlife Monitoring:
WILDCOAST launched a new biological monitoring program by conducting fieldwork and installing three remote camera traps throughout the Reserve. These cameras will be checked for wildlife activity consistently, with additional field visits planned to select new sites and expand the monitoring network.
Visitor & Wildlife Guide: The team completed the Valle de los Cirios Wildlife and Visitor Guide, a resource designed to educate visitors on local species and promote responsible recreation using “Leave No Trace” principles.
